Consider the glass.

It’s for the birds!

WE ARE COMMITTED TO PRESERVING AND PROTECTING NATURE

The Wild Bear Nature Center team has always been committed to preserving and protecting nature, and we are carefully considering its needs as we build the new net-positive nature center.

Take the glass, for example.

The south-facing nature center will feature high-performance passive solar certifiable glass, that will capture the sun’s rays to heat and light the building.  AND, with all of this glass, we have made another important decision!

The passive solar windows will not only capture the sun to heat the building but will prevent bird deaths through the inclusion of BIRD SAFETY GLASS.

Please consider donating today toward this goal.

Donations of $5,000 or more will be included on the donor wall!

WHAT IS PASSIVE SOLAR BIRD GLASS?

Passive solar glass is an innovative building material designed to harness the sun's energy efficiently, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling. This type of glass is engineered to maximize natural light while minimizing heat loss, making it a crucial component in sustainable architecture.

Bird glass, often referred to as bird-safe or bird-friendly glass, is a specially designed type of glass used in buildings to help prevent bird collisions. Traditional glass can be nearly invisible to birds, leading to millions of fatal collisions each year as birds cannot distinguish it from open sky or reflections of their surroundings. Bird glass incorporates various patterns, coatings, or ultraviolet elements that are visible to birds but not easily seen by humans. These designs alert the birds, allowing them to avoid a collision. The implementation of bird glass is an important step in urban planning and architectural design, aiming to coexist harmoniously with wildlife and reduce human impact on avian populations.

Here are the facts!

  • The second leading cause of bird deaths is collisions with windows (first is cats!). Approximately ONE BILLION birds in North America are killed every year by colliding with glass windows.

  • Bird Glass has made an 83% reduction of birds colliding into windows.

  • What happens to birds if they survive collision? Brain injuries interfere in their lives, including an inability to migrate.

LET’S DO THIS TOGETHER!
